I'm sorry. I tend to blog in waves, and it's currently way too late but I can't sleep. I can't sleep because there's something inside that wants to be released, I can neither find the words nor the sentiment to give it a vehicle to travel in. Case and point: i've just spent the past half an hour typing out paragraphs and then deleting them. Oi...

The Great Disillusionment
It's official: I've been disillusioned. Coming into my internship, I somehow thought that working for a big firm in downtown Toronto would be....well, frankly, i thought it would be glamorous. Somehow I thought that PwC cared about ME, and that I would be doing work that changed people's lives. As silly as it sounds, I somehow thought that my post-secondary education entitled me to skip the bottom rungs of the corporate ladder. But everyone starts at the bottom, and I know that I'll have to pay my dues as soon as I start working permanently. There's no way you can avoid it.

Within my first of day of work I got a huge dose of reality. In the end, I've discovered, everyone working on King Street in suits are just people. They're all just people, and big firms are all made up of these normal people. Although firms might tout that they have these great procedures and processes to make decisions fairly and in a systematic manner, in the end there's always a game to be played and your success depends more heavily on the cards you've been dealt than anything else.

On the other hand, I've also found that I mesh really well with the people at PwC. I think it's hilarious how my "boss" looks like a 26 year old "dude" from California. Seriously, I think i detected highlights in his hair! But underneath it all, he's a really cool guy and doesn't intimidate me at all which is SO good. I don't feel like he's my boss, instead, my experience with PwC is that we're all a team working together. Another peron on my team is this 6 foot blond, slender woman named Tania who is from South Africa. She's so elegant! Her accent is a mixture of British and Australian and I'm amazed at how put-together she is considering she has to leave her house every morning at 6am (coming from Newmarket).
